I am sad to share the news of the loss of one of our own. Susan Martin passed away from a brain aneurysm this week at the very young age of 36. Services will be at the Healing Grace Church – 4818 East 80th Street, Tulsa OK 74136. I do not have a lot of details at this time, but wanted to at least share an address for you to send sympathies for the family.
Susan was a founding member of the SE Kansas Chapter 382. She was a wonderful person and a true advocate for women in construction. I share with you a quote from Susan that I saw on her Facebook Page:
My hope is that a future generation female will look at me and the job I do and say to herself, "if she can do it, I can too". It is way past time for young girls and women to realize that the only thing holding us back is ourselves. Women can do anything they set their mind to. There is a difference between can't do something and not capable of doing something. Some of you know my health issues and know how difficult it is most days just to get out of bed and walk. If I can challenge myself to live through the pain and make myself stronger, then I challenge all to do the same. Don't accept defeat!
July 2, 2015.
Please share with your members.
Rest in Peace NAWIC Sister

Survey on Maternity / Paternity Leave Policies
NAWIC Member Stephanie McGovern, Supervisor - Internal Audit at Performance Contracting recently sent out an email to our membership asking for help gathering information on policies and benefits in our industry related to Maternity / Paternity leave practices. Please help Stephanie out if you can! She would like the information by January 15, 2019.
"Good morning NAWIC members,
As an active member of NAWIC, I wanted to try and utilize our Chapter for some industry information. I’m currently performing a study/analysis across the KC industry regarding maternity/paternity leave and the policies your Company has in place. If you would be so kind as to send me your current employers’ policy or guidelines outlining this subject, I would truly appreciate it.
Gathering this information across an industry tends to be much more difficult on your own as much of the information is Company specific and not publicly shared. If you have any concerns, please know that only statistical information regarding the leave will be accumulated.
Thank you for any help you can provide!
Stephanie McGovern | Supervisor - Internal Audit
